Our Story

About the Set the Stage Capital Campaign:

In 2020, we will kick off our community Capital Campaign. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by 2022, all of which will contribute to a massive renovation of our auditorium. Whether it is your first time attending our theatre or you are a seasoned patron, our space is in need of an overhaul down to the nuts and bolts. Our goal is to completely renovate our space by the beginning of our 100th season. This beautiful new space will help set the foundation for the next 100 seasons to come.

We cannot do this without YOUR support!

The Current State of our Auditorium:

Seats are 30+ years old
Aging technology (both lights and sound)
Paint chipping in auditorium
Bad sightlines
Unfinished cement walls

What does our Future Auditorium look like?

Brand new seats
Fresh, modern design
More accessibility for all
More comfort for patrons
Efficient layout

how are we making this happen?

In partnership with your gracious donations, we will be combining a large gift given by a wonderful patron to embark on a major construction effort in 2020/2021. To learn more about the history of our wonderful gift, please read below.

A generous patron

James Graff

Mr. James Graff attended Community Players for many seasons before his passing in 2015. While he enjoyed many pull-length performances. He was one of the reasons the Board voted to get assistive listening devices for the auditorium. He was so kind and so friendly, we all wanted him to have a good time. He was a season ticket holder for so many years and we truly enjoyed his company.

Mr. Graff enjoyed the theatre so much that he granted Community Players Theatre a wonderful donation from his Estate to the continuation of our theatre and performing arts in our community. We want to honor Mr. Graff's memory in a visible way and have decided to invest the funds in a major auditorium renovation project.

By raising this $100,000 in addition to Mr. Graff's wonderful gift we will work to renovate our auditorium space by the time we open our 100th season. We all love CPT! Let's show Bloomington-Normal how proud we are!! We look forward to partnering with you to create a space to continue to allow patrons like Mr. Graff to enjoy live local theatre for many seasons to come.
